[ubuntu] By which terminal command can I put an icon into the notifications area?

I would like to change languages by clicking on launcher icons on the panel.
And it would be great if I could add an terminal command into the launcher in order to send an notification to the notification area.
Has anybody an idea which terminal command I could use.
I am still not very familiar...
