i have a bunch of images that i want to be displayed on a wide range of smartphones. these images will be served over HTTP so a web browser will be used to access them. these images are about the ratio of a book page or document page. i would like for these images to be displayed as large as possible by each particular phone. the browser will have direct access to the actual BMP or GIF or JPG or PNG image file as the URL when it is to be displayed.

it would be nice for the user if they can thumb through the images just as those on their phone. but i don't want to force them to download the images to do that. is this possible without having to build a system to do that with some kind of web programming?

i am not trying to restrict these users from downloading these images. they are welcome to do so if they wish. but it is over a GB.
