Connecting to Windows File Servers - Couple of Questions

I'm connecting to the office using VPN for the first time and connecting windows file servers. This is all going well, but I have a couple of questions:

1. Is there any way to stop Finder opening a new window every time I go into a new directory on the Windows network (I've got the relevant option checked and it doesn't do this when traversing directories on my MacBook).

2. When I'm in a directory on the Windows network, is there anyway to get Finder to give me the (copyable) full path of where I am?

Thanks,
J
